October is a busy month for defence and paramilitary recruitment. In the next few weeks alone, the Indian Coast Guard, the Indian Navy, the CRPF and the ITBP all have openings with different closing dates, different qualifications and very different selection processes. Some are for sportspersons, some for technical trades and one is for counsellors. This page puts all five notices in one place, with the last date of each, who each one suits and a plain-language guide to choosing, preparing and applying. We confirm only what published reports say, and where a detail has not been published, we say so, because guessing an age limit or a fee has cost candidates real money in the past.
Last updated: 9 October 2026. Details are compiled from published reports and may change. Always confirm on the official recruitment website of each force before you apply.

Indian Coast Guard: CGEPT 01/2027 and 02/2027
The Coast Guard has opened two enrolment batches together, covering Navik (General Duty), Navik (Domestic Branch), Yantrik and Hygienist. The last date is reported as 21 October 2026, the earliest in this list, so start here if you are planning to apply to more than one force. A Navik (GD) works on ships and boats on seamanship and operations. A Navik (DB) works on the catering and stewarding side. A Yantrik maintains engines and equipment and normally needs an engineering diploma. A Hygienist is a medical support post.
The listing does not give vacancies, qualifications, age or fee. In earlier Coast Guard sailor recruitments, the stages were an online written test, a physical fitness test, document verification and a medical examination, with different qualifications for each post. Treat that as a pattern, not as this year’s rules, and read the notification on the Coast Guard recruitment portal before you apply. If you are interested in a life at sea, search and rescue and maritime law enforcement, it is among the most distinctive uniformed careers in India.
Indian Navy: sports quota, last date 22 October
This is a sailor-entry recruitment for sportspersons, described in one listing as 12th pass level. The selection is built around your sports achievement. The notice will list eligible sports, the competition levels that count, such as international, senior national or junior national, and the period during which the achievement must have been earned. Your certificate has to match those conditions and come from a recognised federation or authority. A strong player without a qualifying certificate will not be shortlisted.
After the certificates are checked, expect trials or a fitness test and a medical examination. Navy medical standards on eyesight and hearing are strict, so if you have any concern, read the standards early. The notice on joinindiannavy.gov.in is the only source for vacancies, age and sports list.
ITBP Head Constable: Motor Mechanic and Education and Stress Counsellor
Two technical and professional posts, both with a last date of 27 October 2026. The Motor Mechanic post is a vehicle maintenance trade with about 21 vacancies. The Education and Stress Counsellor post has about 16 vacancies and involves counselling and training for force personnel. One site shows 37 posts by combining the two. Qualification, age and fee are not in the listings. Central forces have generally asked for a motor vehicle trade qualification for mechanics and a postgraduate degree in psychology or a related field for counsellors, but the notice decides.
For the mechanic post, expect a trade test in addition to the written and physical stages. Revise the engine, fuel, cooling, transmission, braking, steering and electrical systems and practise diagnosing faults. For the counsellor post, revise counselling approaches, stress and coping, and be ready for scenario-based questions.
ITBP Constable (GD) sports quota: 10th pass level
About 126 posts for sportspersons at the 10th pass level, with a last date of 1 November 2026. A Constable (GD) in a central force draws a Level 3 pay scale and allowances, and the 10th pass requirement makes this one of the most accessible central force entries for athletes. ITBP is known for its high-altitude postings, so think about whether mountain duty suits you. Your sports record is the entry ticket, but the physical standards and medical test apply to everyone.
CRPF sports quota: Head Constable and Constable (GD)
The largest of the five, with about 521 posts reported and the longest runway, with a last date of 11 November 2026. Applications are reported to start around 12 October. In sports quota notices, the rank often depends on the level of achievement: higher-level achievements may be considered for Head Constable and others for Constable. The details of sport-wise vacancies, age and trials are in the official notification at rect.crpf.gov.in.
How to choose between these openings
- You are a sportsperson with a certificate: the Navy, ITBP and CRPF sports quota notices are all open to you. Apply to all that you qualify for, but check that trial dates do not clash.
- You hold an ITI or diploma: look at the Coast Guard Yantrik post and the ITBP Motor Mechanic post.
- You have a postgraduate degree in psychology or education: the ITBP counsellor post is the one.
- You want a sea-based career: the Coast Guard and Navy.
- You prefer mountain and border postings: ITBP.
Physical preparation that works for all of them
Every one of these selections has a physical component. Build a base of running three or four days a week, add strength work twice a week and keep one rest day. Practise the exact events in your notification under timed conditions. If swimming matters for the Coast Guard or Navy, practise it in a safe place. Sleep at least seven hours and eat enough protein. Avoid crash training in the final week, because injuries at that stage cost more than they gain.
Medical standards: the quiet filter
Many candidates pass every other stage and are rejected at the medical for eyesight, colour vision, hearing, flat feet or old injuries. Read the medical standards in each notice and, if you suspect an issue, get a check-up now. Some conditions can be corrected, but only if you know early.
Documents to keep ready for any defence application
- Class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates.
- ITI, diploma or degree certificates where required.
- Sports certificates in the prescribed format, with the issuing authority’s signature, for sports quota posts.
- Category and domicile certificates in the state format.
- Aadhaar, photographs and signature scans in the specified size.
A short timeline for the next four weeks
- By 12 October: read all five notices and shortlist those you qualify for.
- By 15 October: complete the Coast Guard form, which closes first.
- By 20 October: apply to the Navy sports quota before 22 October.
- By 25 October: apply for ITBP Head Constable posts before 27 October.
- By 30 October: apply to ITBP Constable GD before 1 November.
- By 8 November: apply to CRPF before 11 November, and do not leave it to the last day.
Avoid agents and fake sites
Every defence recruitment attracts agents who promise selection for money. There is no such thing. Selection depends on your certificates, tests, trials and medical. Apply only on the official portals, which end in .gov.in or .nic.in or are linked from the force’s main website, and do not pay anyone other than the official fee. If someone asks for money, report it to the police and the recruiting unit.
