Download the call letter first, then read it
Many candidates download the call letter and never read it. Read it today. It lists your exam date, shift, reporting time and the full address of the centre. Compare your registered name, photograph and signature with what you remember filling in. If anything is wrong, contact the IBPS helpdesk through the email or form on the website, and do it now rather than on the exam day, when nobody can help you.
How to download
- Open ibps.in and go to the CRP CSA section.
- Click CRP CSA-XVI and then the prelims call letter link.
- Enter your registration or roll number and your password or date of birth, plus the captcha.
- Check your exam date, reporting time and centre, then download and print.
If the page is slow, try again at off-peak hours, such as late at night or early morning. Do not use unofficial links that promise faster access.
Shift timings
| Shift | Reporting | Exam time |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 8:00 AM | 9:00 to 10:00 AM |
| 2 | 10:30 AM | 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM |
| 3 | 1:00 PM | 2:00 to 3:00 PM |
| 4 | 3:30 PM | 4:30 to 5:30 PM |
Reporting times are an hour before the exam, but your call letter has the final word. Reach at least 30 minutes before the reporting time, especially if the centre is in an unfamiliar area.
The prelims pattern
| Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| English Language | 30 | 30 | 20 min |
| Numerical Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 min |
| Reasoning Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 min |
The total is 100 questions in 60 minutes with one-fourth negative marking. The sectional time limit means you cannot go back to a section once the time is up, so plan each section independently.
A section-by-section strategy
English first: it is the shortest section, and reading comprehension, error spotting and cloze test are scoring if you are fluent. Skip very long passages if time is running out. Numerical ability next: begin with simplification, number series and quadratic equations, which are quick, and leave the longer data interpretation sets for the end. Reasoning: do the seating arrangement or puzzle that seems simplest, then move to inequalities, coding-decoding and syllogisms. Do not spend more than two minutes on any single question in the prelims.
Negative marking: how to use it wisely
With one-fourth negative marking, a wrong answer costs a quarter of a mark. If you can eliminate two options, guessing becomes a good bet. If you cannot eliminate any, skip. Over a 100-question paper, a few smart guesses can add several marks, while random guessing can ruin your score.
Documents to carry
- The printed call letter. A soft copy on a phone is not enough.
- The original photo ID mentioned in the call letter, and a photocopy.
- Passport-size photographs, if the call letter asks for them.
- Any other document listed in the call letter.
Keep everything in one transparent folder. Also carry your own pen only if the call letter allows it, and avoid bringing bags or electronic items, which are generally not permitted inside.
The night before and the morning of
Sleep early. Eat a light meal. Keep your documents at the door, along with your water bottle if allowed at the centre. On the morning, leave early and plan for traffic. Candidates who reach in a rush and sit down in a panic make more mistakes in the first section. Once inside, take a deep breath and read the instructions on the screen before you start.
After the exam
IBPS usually releases the prelims result a few weeks after the exam. Candidates who clear the cut-off appear in the mains, which is scheduled for 27 December 2026 as per the report. The cut-off varies by state and category, so check the state you applied to. Save your call letter and exam details, since you will need them again for the mains.
Prepare for mains while waiting
Do not stop after the prelims. The mains has a longer pattern with sections like general and financial awareness and computer aptitude. Candidates who begin mains preparation straight after the prelims have a clear edge. For other bank exams and dates, see UIIC AO admit card, IBPS PO prelims scorecard and the admit card tracker.

Troubleshooting common call letter problems
If the call letter does not download, clear your browser cache or use a different browser. If you get an error saying details do not match, try entering your date of birth in the format shown on the page and check for typos in the registration number. If the password does not work, use the forgot password option and the registered email or phone number. If the photograph or signature on the call letter is missing or wrong, write to the helpdesk with a screenshot and keep the response, because you may need it at the centre. Never accept help from strangers on social media who offer to fix your account in exchange for your login details.
How many questions should you attempt?
The number of attempts that clears the cut-off varies every year, but accuracy matters more than the count. A candidate who attempts 80 questions with high accuracy generally beats one who attempts 95 with many wrong answers because of negative marking. Aim to solve every easy and medium question and use the remaining time for the harder ones in each section.
A last-week revision routine
In the last week before the prelims, do not try to learn new chapters. Spend each morning on one full mock, each afternoon on analysing it, and each evening on a short revision of formulas, vocabulary and error spotting rules. Keep a one-page sheet of squares, cubes, percentage fractions and common reasoning patterns, and read it every day. By the exam day you should be able to recall them without thinking, which saves seconds on every question and adds up to several minutes across the paper.
